Wouldn't You Like To Know - 11/27/04

Hi all. So, today I was joined in the studio by my buddy Rick Haney and that sweet girl Ebony Nicolas (all the way from the big city). Rick tried to run me over in the Dunkin' Donuts parking lot and Ebony showed up some time around Urge Overkill (give or take a song).

I went to see O.A.R. at the State Theater this past week and while the show was not as great as I thought it might be (I attribute this mostly to the fact that I thought I knew way more of their songs than I actually do), seeing "Crazy Game of Poker" live was totally awesome. Karen Zeigler (I am so never sure if I'm spelling her last name right, sorry K), Jen MacBride, Jenn Adams and Tom Houghton were in tow and were a fun crowd to see the show with. Thanks to all of you guys. And to the handful of other folks who rolled into the Free Street Taverna for pre-show beers.

The whole point of that ramble was to say that I had a little plan to play a bunch of O.A.R. and other bands that came up in conversation while drinking before the show (everything from Green Day to John Mayer and from The Jackson 5 to The Violent Femmes) but alas this was not to be as I knew Ebony would be there and that would throw the plan off. Not that that's bad. In fact, and I don't mean to sound surprised, today's show was pretty good. Ebony's few choices (she could have put on more stuff but she just didn't for whatever reason) were things I'd never heard (The Futureheads, The Unicorns), things I'd heard of but never heard (The Pixies, The Shins) and things I've heard a lot (Queen with David Bowie). Rick burned several cds for himself and picked no songs to play on the air. Boooo.

There are no CDs for today as the one I did burn wouldn't finalize and is therefor useless and even so it stopped somewhere around Van Morrison or so anyway. I'll be making a dreaded trip to the place I hate the most - yes, that's right, Wal-Mart - in pursuit of some Maxell Audio CD-Rs (since they seem to be the ones that work most consistently in our rack-component burner, according to my informal polling of other WRBC DJs). This is going to be a torturous experience for me but I'm getting really fed up with not being able to burn my shows consistently. I almost switched back to tapes today.

Anyway, Happy "after" Thanksgiving and enjoy.
